Line of Symmetry and Reflection:
Symmetry is closely related to reflection. A shape has line symmetry when one half of it is the mirror image of the other half. A mirror line helps us to visualise a line of symmetry. The line of symmetry acts as a line along which a mirror has been placed. One part of the figure is a mirror image of the other part. That is why line symmetry of a figure is known as reflection symmetry.
Activity to perform using symmetry
Step 1: Take sheet of paper and fold it into 2 halves.
Step 2: Punch a hole as shown below.
Step 3: Unfold the sheet to separate the two halves as shown below.
The fold is acting as a line of symmetry.
